Day 5 – Train to Aguas Calientes / Hike to Putucusi or Mandor Valley Bird watching

Breakfast at the hotel; Pick from the Hotel for your Excursion to Machu Picchu 2 days, early transfer to the nearby train station to Poroy for the train journey to the mysterious lost city of Machu Picchu, the train ride to Machu Picchu is one of the most beautiful journeys that visitors can experience in our country. The trip offers a great natural, so many staggering views of the Andes and a jungle atmosphere after descending to the (2000m/6560ft). After around 3 ½ hours, we will have arrived in Aguas Calientes, transfer to the Hotel after check in, we have two options to visit (you can choose just only one option).
First option: Mandor Valley Bird watching; we walk along the Vilcanota River following the railroad tracks into the Mandor Valley to visit its waterfall. The valley is inhabited by varied and fascinating birdlife, including Speckle-faced Parrots and Green Jays, and we have opportunity to find Cock-of-the-Rock. We will relax and perhaps bathe under the waterfall before walking back to the hotel in the shadow of Machu Picchu.
Second option: Hike Putucusi; Hike up an exhilarating mountain that culminates in a spectacular view of the Machu Picchu citadel from the far side of the Vilcanota valley. On ascent appreciate the stark contrast between the mountain cloud forest and the elfin forest, as well as the interesting variation in trees, orchids and birds. Breakfast at the hotel; full day Excursion to Machu Picchu, early transfer to the Bus Stop for the short ride (25 minutes) up to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, you will participate in a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial (the most important preserved Intihuatana), the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, houses, warehouses, a large central square; and all connected by narrow roads and steps that are surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side. After the tour you’ll have time to stroll around the Archaeological Site at your leisure.

Day 1 – Transportation to Km 82 – Wayllabamba

Pick up from the Hotel at 5:30am and drive to Km 82
the head of the Inca Trail. We begin our hike by crossing the bridge over the
Urubamba River and walking along its left shore as it flows northwest. Following the
trail along a flat terrain, we arrive in Miskay (2800m/9184 ft) to then ascend and
finally see, from the tallest part of an overlook, the impressive Inca city of Llactapata
(2650m/8692 ft). We continue trekking along the valley created by the Kusichaca
River, gradually climbing for about five hours until we reach the community of
Wayllabamba, our first camping.

Day 2 – Wayllabamba – Pacaymayo

Breakfast; we begin the most difficult part of the trek,
which consists of an abrupt and steep ascent that stretches for 9 km along this climb.
The first pass Warmihuañusca (Dead Woman´s 4200m/13776 ft) we may see
domesticated llamas and alpacas grazing on ichu, one of the few plants that grow at
high altitude. Walking down and cross an area of the so called cloud forest, which is
the habitat for many different kinds of birds like hummingbirds and sparrows, and the
Andean bear. We advise that on this day specially, your daypack is well stocked with
candies, chocolates and coca leaves that will keep your sugar level high, and help
with altitude sickness. We descend into the Pacaymayo (3600m/11808 ft), where we
camp.

Day 3 – Pacaymayo – Wiñay Wayna

Breakfast; we ascend again past the Inca site of
Runkuracay (3970m/13022 ft). As we reach the second pass, the landscape opens
onto spectacular new views to the snow peaks of the Pumasillo range. Then we
descend towards Yanacocha and enter the cloud forest to finally arrive at
Sayacmarca. This is a beautiful complex made up of a semicircular construction,
enclosures at different levels, narrow streets, liturgical fountains, patios and irrigation
canals. Continuing up an easy climb to the third pass Phuyupatamarca, continue our
trek down the long descending stone steps that lead us to Wiñay wayna
(2650m/8692 ft) where we spend our last camping.

Day 4 – Wiñay wayna – Visit Machu Picchu – Back to Cusco

Breakfast; we wake up at 4:00am an hour later and
climb to the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) from this fabulous spot, we may see the sunrise
over the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu (2400m/7872 ft). From here we descend
into Machu Picchu, 40 minutes later we enter the citadel from the highest point
through the “House of the Guardians”. We then descend to the control point where
we register ourselves and leave our backpacks.

Upon arrival, you will participate in a guided tour of the
Citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial (the most
important preserved Intihuatana), the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three
Windows, houses, warehouses, a large central square; and all connected by narrow
roads and steps that are surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side. After the tour you’ll have time to stroll around the Archaeological Site at your leisure.
Then, you will have time to perform some of the following activity by yourself (not
included in the price):

1. Climb Wayna Picchu; for the most adventurous
people, we suggest to go up the Wayna Picchu from where you can appreciate the
immensity of Machu Picchu, even more amazing being high and distant.

Train back to Cusco: In the afternoon train departure to

Day 1 – Arrival to Cusco – City Sightseeing Tour

Upon arrival, reception and transfer to your Cusco
Hotel; where you’ll be welcomed with coca infusion tea (“mate de coca”) that will help
you to get used to the altitude – free morning to take a leisurely walk around the
ancient capital of the Incas or to acclimatize to the high altitude setting.
After lunch at 1:30pm; Cusco tour including the
Cathedral, Koricancha, Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay.
Our tour will beginning on to the Main Square of Cusco. You’ll enter the Cathedral of
Cusco and see the beautiful woodwork and colonial paintings containing extensive
Incan iconography. Visit the Korikancha (Temple of the Sun) on which the Santo
Domingo Convent was built. Legend says this temple was completely gold coated,
which impressed the conquerors upon their arrival.
Ascend to the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman
and visit the Cuidadela. This is the royal house where they admired the Sun God but
also worshiped younger gods. Admire this large structure and enjoy the magnificent
landscape which brings peace and tranquility. Next, visit Qenqo, the old temple of the Puma. Inside you can see a sacrificial altar made of a huge stone. At
Tambomachay, you’ll see the sacred fountains of life and health. Pucapucara
safeguarded the city gates and the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. The tour ends with a
detailed visit of the city of Cusco.

Day 2 – Sacred Valley of the Incas

Breakfast at the hotel; pick up from the hotel at
8:30am for your full day tour to the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas, explore
the beautiful Peruvian countryside with a full-day tour of the magical Sacred Valley.
First place, you will visit the town of Pisaq, famous for its bustling market. This native
town was once where “exchange transactions” took place. In this type of transaction,
customers would exchange one good for another instead of using currency. Visit the
market of Pisaq where you can purchase beautifully crafted products hand-made by
the locals.
On Sunday, the main attraction is a mass celebrated
in Quechua and conducted in Spanish. It is attended by the mayors and their
attendants who play traditional musical instruments called “pututos.”
Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a typical Peruvian lunch
(included in price) before visiting the fortress of Ollantaytambo.
Next, you will visit the impressive ruins of
Ollantaytambo fortress. These magnificent ancient ruins serve as great vantage
points to look out over the valley. Originally the royal estate of Emperor Pachakuteq
during the Inca Empire, this site later served as a stronghold for Manco Inca
Yupanqui in the Inca´s final rebellion against the Spanish. In the afternoon back to

Day 3 – Train to km 104 – Hike the Inca Trail

Breakfast at the hotel; our representative will pick you
up from your Cusco Hotel and you’ll be transferred to the Poroy railway station to
enjoy 3 ½ hour scenic rail tour to Aguas Calientes.
The train will take us to km 104 (starting point of the
hike), we start visiting the Chachabamba archaeological site (2150m/7052ft), hike
upon an 8 km ascending trail, which after 4 hours takes us to the archaeological site
of Wiñay Wayna (2650m/8692ft). This is an impressive site made up of an
agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious sector and an urban sector,
and then we go on and climb to the Sun Gate. From this fabulous spot, we may
contemplate the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu. Then we take the bus down to
Aguas Calientes. Dinner at Aguas Calientes restaurant – Overnight at Aguas

ride (25 minutes) up to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, you will participate
in a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the

Temple of the Three Windows, houses, warehouses, a large central square; and all
connected by narrow roads and steps that are surrounded by terraces cut into the

Day 1 – Cusco / Cruzpata / Salcantaypampa

Pick up from the Hotel at 5:00am private transport
from to Cruzpata 4 hours. We cross the town of Limatambo (2100m/6888ft), then
drive up a beaten track along the right shore of the Apurimac River, to reach
Mollepata (2800m/9184ft), from where we continue on to Cruzpata (3100m/10168ft),
where we meet our horsemen and horses. From this point we start the ascent on
foot towards Soraypampa, following a climbing trail with many level variations and
along which we encounter little groups of houses, flora and small wild birds. We
arrive at our campsite in Salkantaypampa (3895m/12776ft). From here we can
appreciate the majestic Salkantay (6271m/20569ft).

Day 2 – Salkantaypampa / Pampacahuana

Breakfast; we continue our hike to start the four-hour
steep climb towards the Incachiriasca pass (4850m/15908ft), the highest of the
entire route, offering impressive views of the Salkantay snow peak. We then
descend towards our lunch spot at Sisaypampa, a flat area from which one can
observe the Salkantay´s neighboring valleys (it is possible that you will see condors
in this area). After lunch we continue towards the Pampacahuana community,
located next to an original Inca canal, where we set our second camp and spend the
night.

Day 3 – Pampacahuana / Llulluchapampa

Breakfast; start a downhill walk along the shores of
the Pampacahuana River following its course towards the Wayllabamba
(3000m/9840ft). On the way down we visit the Incaracay archaeological complex.
After approximately 4 hours, we arrive to Wayllabamba, where we stop for lunch.
This is the point in which our trek joins the Inca Trail. Since pack animals are not
allowed in the Inca Trail, we say goodbye to our horsemen and instead, are
introduced to our group of porters. We leave Wayllabamba to until Llulluchapampa
(3850m/12628ft), where we camp and spend the night. Along the climb, the
landscape changes from sierra to puna, having the chance to spot domesticated
llamas and alpacas grazing on ichu

Day 4 – Llulluchapampa / Chaquiqocha

Breakfast; hike up the highest point in the Inca Trail,
reaching the mountain pass of Abra Warmihuañusca (4200m/13776ft) after about 2
hours. Immediately after the pass, we descend into the Pacaymayo valley
(3600m/11808ft), from which we then continue to climb to the second pass, the Abra
Runkurakay (3970m/13022ft). Halfway up, we stop to visit the archaeological
complex with the same name. This site, located at 3800m/12464ft, consists of a
small oval structure that is believed to have served the purpose of a watchtower. After going over the pass, we descend towards Yanacocha and enter the cloud
forest to finally arrive at Sayacmarca (3624m/11887ft). This is a beautiful complex
made up of a semicircular construction, enclosures at different levels, narrow streets,
liturgical fountains, patios and irrigation canals. Only 20 minutes away is
Chaquicocha, where we will set our camp.

Day 5 – Chaquiqocha / Wiñay Wayna

Breakfast; continue up an easy climb, to arrive at the
third pass, Phuyupatamarca (3700m/12136ft). Along this climb we can appreciate
the magnitude of the Incas´ ancient craft, by walking along paths semi-detached
from the mountain, and seeing rocks that fill up ravines in perfect order, saving the
trail from the multileveled Andean geography. We go through an Inca tunnel to later
arrive at the aforementioned pass and down to the complex of the same name.
Phyupatamarca means “town over the clouds”. From above, one can observe a
sophisticated sacred complex made up of water fountains with solid foundations, and
also impressive views of the Urubamba River valley and the long descending stone
steps along which we will continue on to Wiñaywayna (2650m/8692ft) where we
spend the night.

descend into Machu Picchu, 40 minutes later we enter the citadel from the highest
point through the “House of the Guardians”. We then descend to the control point
where we register ourselves and leave our backpacks. We immediately begin a
complete guided tour of the Inca citadel that will take approximately two hours. You
will then have free time to walk around, climb the Wayna Picchu Mountain, where
one can experience spectacular views of all of Machu Picchu, the valleys and
mountains that surround it, or visit the Temple of the Moon or the impressive Inca
Bridge. In the afternoon, we meet in the town of Aguas Calientes where we take the
train back to Poroy Train Station and transfer to your Cusco hotel

Pick up from the Hotel and transfer to the nearby train
station to Poroy, the train ride to Machu Picchu is one of the most beautiful journeys

We continue trekking along the valley created by the Kusichaca River, gradually
climbing for about five hours until we reach the community of Wayllabamba
(3000m/9840ft), where we set our first camp.

kinds of birds like hummingbirds and sparrows, and the Andean bear. We advise that
on this day specially, your daypack is well stocked with candies, chocolates and
coca leaves that will keep your sugar level high, and help with altitude sickness. After
the pass, we descend into the Pacaymayu valley (3600m/11808ft), where we
camp.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Cusco to Llulluchapampa

Pick up from the Hotel at 6:00am and drive to Km 82
the head of the Inca Trail. We begin our hike by crossing the bridge over the
Urubamba River and walking along its left shore as it flows northwest. Following the
trail along a flat terrain, we arrive in Miskay (2800m/9184 ft) to then ascend and
finally see, from the tallest part of an overlook, the impressive Inca city of Llactapata
(2650m/8692 ft). We continue trekking along the valley created by the Kusichaca
River, gradually climbing for about five hours until we reach the community of
Wayllabamba. Continuing through the trail, we leave Wayllabamba behind to begin
the most difficult part of the trek, we only climb half way up the pass, stopping at
Llulluchapampa, where we camp and spend the night.

Day 2 – Llulluchapampa to Phuyupatamarca

After breakfast, we continue our hike up the highest
point in the Inca Trail, reaching the mountain pass of Abra Warmihuañusca (Dead
Woman’s Pass – 4200m/13776ft) after about 2 hours. Immediately after the pass, we
descend into the Pacaymayo Valley (3600m/11808ft), from which we then start to
climb to the second pass, the Abra Runkurakay (3970m/13022ft). Half way up, we
visit the archaeological complex with the same name. This site, located at
3800m/12464ft, consists of a small oval structure that is believed to have served the
purpose of a watchtower. Continuing up an easy climb, we arrive at the third pass,
the Abra Phuyupatamarca (3700m/12136ft). Curiously, Phuyupatamarca means
“town over the clouds”. From above, one can observe a sophisticated sacred
complex made up of water fountains with solid foundations, and also impressive
views of the Urubamba River valley. We set our camp in Phuyupatamarca and
spend the night there.

Day 3 – Phuyupatamarca to Machu Picchu / Back to Cusco

Breakfast; we wake up at 4:00am and start our way
through the long descending stone steps which will lead us to Wiñaywayna
(2650m/8692ft) Wiñaywayna is the biggest archaeological site in the Inca Trail
besides Machu Picchu and consists of an impressive complex made up of an
agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious sector and an urban sector,
offering spectacular views over the already narrower Urubamba River valley. After
our visit, we leave Wiñaywayna to climb to Intipunku (Sun Gate). From here we
descend into Machu Picchu, 40 minutes later we enter the citadel from the highest
point through the “House of the Guardians”. We then descend to the control point
where we register ourselves and leave our backpacks. We immediately begin a
complete guided tour of the Inca citadel that will take approximately two hours. You
will then have free time to walk around, climb the Wayna Picchu Mountain, where
one can experience spectacular views of all of Machu Picchu, the valleys and
mountains that surround it, or visit the Temple of the Moon or the impressive Inca
Bridge. In the afternoon take bus to Aguas Calientes town where we take the train
back to Poroy Train Station and transfer to your Cusco hotel.
