Qoyllur Ritty is a Quechua word that means ‘’snow that shines like a star’’. The people here are devoted to Taytacha Qoyllur Ritty (Lord of the Snow Bright). This is an old religious custom practiced only by the inhabitants of the Andes. Each year, a few days before the celebration of Corpus Christi, every small village or clan send a delegation with colorful dancers and “pabluchas’ to the Chapel of the Lord of Qoyllur Ritty. This is situated at the beginning of a mountain called Sinakara in the village of Mawayany, at 4600 meters above sea level. The pabluchas represent alpacas and are intermediaries between the Lord of Qoyllur Ritty and men. The climb to the chapel is carried out at 4 in the morning by the Sinakara herding their animals. During the party the people who participate in the procession of Nuestra Señora de Fatima will have good luck in business, life and future. The end of the procession takes place in the ancient Inca capital of Cusco with the processions of Corpus Christi, streets and squares are filled with people, music and color.

DAY 01: CUSCO – MAGUALLANI – QOYLLUR RITTY

We start at 08:00 pm and arrived at about 12.00 pm to Maguallani. There we have half an hour to prepare our things and head towards to Qoyllur Ritty which is 292 km from Cusco. Walk in the moonlight in a procession along with more than 2000 pilgrim’s devotees of Señor de Qoyllor Ritty. At about 3:00 am we arrive at our campsite where we can relax and sleep.

DAY 02: QOYLLUR RITTY

At 07:00 a.m. breakfast. Then we go to church to attend Mass daily which takes approximately half an hour. Then we began our march to the holy mountain of Qoyllor Ritty where we observe all the ancient rites and customs that they are implemented at an altitude of 4,800 meters above sea level. After that lunch and subsequently continue our journey between ups and downs for 4 hours in total. Arrive at the fair in which every visitor participates. At 07:00 pm dinner and then spend the night.

DAY 03: QOYLLUR RITTY – CUSCO

Day 1. CUSCO – LARES HOT SPRING – CUNCANI:

We will pick you up from your hotel at 5.00 am and drive for 3 hours until we arrive to the trail head Lares, the hot springs, at 3.200 meters. We will enjoy our breakfast before jumping in the hot spring pools (medicinal waters of Lares ). After we enjoy for approximately 2 hours we will finally start our hike with a gradual uphill for 2.5 hours until we get to our lunch spot where our cook and porters will feed you with a fresh, buffet meal. After lunch you will take a short siesta before trekking again. Day 2 . HUACAWASI – CONDOR PASS – QUEUNAYOC.

You will wake up around 5.30 AM with a hot cup of coca tea. After you pack up your duffel, you will enjoy some breakfast prepared by your professional chef and receive some snacks and water. Around 7.30 am you will take off from the camp towards the highest peak of the trek. This will take around 4 hours going uphill with great views of the snow capped peaks, valleys, alpacas, llamas, lagoons and if you are lucky enough some condors (biggest birds of the Andes). Finally you will reach the pass where you will enjoy some coca tea and the charming views of both valleys, the Sacred Valley and Lares valley. You will finally get to start descending at this point for 1.5 hours to arrive to our lunch spot where our chef will serve you hot drinks and family style food, all really delicious observing all food restrictions. After lunch you will have some time for a short siesta depending on the weather temperature and then it will be another 2 hours downhill in order to arrive to our campsite in the middle of trees and streams. After you settle back in your tents you can enjoy a small happy hour with hot drinks and then dinner and finally bed time as you might be tired after surviving the big mountain.

Wake up today is at 6.30 am with a hot glass of coca tea or chocolate. After packing up, you will have a delicious breakfast and around 8.00 am you will start walking towards the end of the trail. Tt will be around 4 hours downhill, exploring beautiful waterfalls, giant rocky mountains and one inca ruin where your guide will explain the history for you. Once you finish the trek you will say goodbye to your cook, horsemen and porters and continue on, with just your guide, by car to Ollantaytambo to train to Aguas Calientes. This train will either be at 3.36 pm, 4.36 pm or 7.00 pm depending on train availability. Dinner will also depend on the train time. Day 1: Cusco – Maras – Moray – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

We will meet you at your hotel at 8.00 am for pick you and then drive towards the Sacred Valley of the Inkas. It will take about 45 minutes to get to our first stop which will be Chincheros. Chincheros is a small inka living town where you will explore the inka site of chincheros with her many farming terraces which the Inkas used to farm potatoes. From here you will head to the famous roman catholic church which has amazing paintings from the 16th century, with amazing colors. Once you have left the Church you will visit the famous hand made craft center where you will see the ladies working in the traditional style demonstrate how they weave together beautiful alpaca sweaters. We will then drive to Moray inka site which is the largest inka agricultural experimentation center with the most famous farming terraces for the inkas to study soil and weather effects on crops. A close drive from Moray is Maras, beautiful salt mines carved into the mountain. There are more than 3000 small salt pools, each individually owned by a family in Maras. These salt pools have been used and cultivated the same way since the incas and are the main source of salt for all the Cusco region. We will stop for a nice lunch in Urubamba before heading to the last attraction of the day, Ollantaytambo fortress. Ollantaytambo, known as the living inka city, was a very importation village during inca times and includes some beautiful attractions, including the Temple of the Sun. This building was built with massive stones brought for over 4km away. We will enjoy some dinner in Ollantaytambo before heading on the 7PM train to Aguas Calientes. Day 2 – AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO:

After an early breakfast at your hotel you and your guide will take the bus (which takes 25 minutes) up the switchback road to the ruins . Buses start at 5:30am and run as a shuttle – first come, first serve, as soon as they get full, they go.Once in Machu Picchu park, you will have a 2 hour private guided tour. Then you’ll have extra time to explore the ruins on your own. If you have booked a permit to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, that will be your next adventure. The Sun Gate is a 1 hour climb (and is free and available to all) which is great to get those postcard pictures of the ruins from way above.Usual train departure time is in the afternoon to Ollantaytambo , and then by bus to your hotel in Cusco aventuras inca trail best.

TRANSPORTATION:

HUAYNAPICCHU:

Huaynapicchu is the mountain that stands next to Machu Picchu and has beautiful views from the top of Machu Picchu from above. It takes 45 minutes to get to the top and then 45 minutes back down and is quite steep for those scared of heights. This is done after your tour of Machu Picchu and is $25 per person to hike. This is extremely popular and needs to be arranged at least a month or two prior to your trek. Since you are hiking the Inca Trail, you will experience a similar view from the Sun Gate – but slightly less dramatic. Please understand that we can’t control weather and cloudy days will prevent perfect pictures aventuras inca trail best.

FLIGHTS:

Flying to Cusco can be a little tricky. Delays happen often and it is not uncommon for flights to be cancelled for no reason. Please make sure you arrive in the city at least 2 days before your trek start date. LAN Peru is the most reliable of the airlines that fly between Lima and Cusco with many time options, but Avianca and Peruvian Airlines are good companies as well. You will not be back from your trek until around 8PM on day 2, so make sure your flight is not until the next day when leaving Cusco aventuras inca trail best.
